Shumbalala Game Lodge - Your Stay in Thornybush Game Reserve

Shumbalala Game Lodge is a 5-star lodge set in the 14000-hectare Thornybush Game Reserve. The five suites, including the Superior Suite and Presidential Suite, are decorated in neutral and white shades with wooden and stone floors. Beds have mosquito nets. Each suite has a sitting area with a fireplace, a minibar, tea-and-coffee-making facilities, a Nespresso machine, and air conditioning. The private viewing deck includes a plunge pool and looks over the watering hole, where elephants, warthogs, and impalas come to drink. Bathrooms have indoor and outdoor showers, and the Presidential Suite adds a freestanding tub.

Meals are prepared by in-house chefs. Breakfast is made to order, and the kitchen handles vegetarian, vegan, and other dietary requests. Dinners can be served in the dining room or in the wine cellar, which looks over the watering hole. The lodge also sets up private dinners by the fireplace or in the cellar. The bar offers wine and champagne, and kids' meals are available.

Game drives run twice a day, in the morning and again in the late afternoon. Each vehicle holds a maximum of six guests and carries blankets, rain jackets, binoculars, and refillable water bottles. A ranger and tracker lead the drives, and off-road driving is allowed in Thornybush, so sightings can include lions, leopards, cheetahs, impalas, and birds of prey. The lodge arranges walking safaris, cultural tours, and visits to the anti-poaching unit. Stops on the drives include bush snacks and sundowner drinks. Back at camp, the swimming pool, sun terrace, and viewing deck face the watering hole, with sun loungers available.

The lodge is at Thornybush Main Gate on Guernsey Road, inside the Thornybush Game Reserve in South Africa and adjacent to the Greater Kruger National Park. Hoedspruit Eastgate Airport is 25 km away, and the lodge runs an airport shuttle. Free parking is available for guests who drive.

The front desk is open 24 hours and offers concierge service, private check-in and check-out, and fax/photocopying. Staff can meet guests at the gate and escort them to the lodge. Room service, laundry, ironing, and daily housekeeping are available. Guests can use the shared kitchen, BBQ facilities, garden, outdoor fireplace, and shared lounge/TV area.
